Flax – Tuesday 6th September to Sunday 11th September 2022 10:00 – 16:00 (Free)

The eagle-eyed will already have spotted a flax patch growing this year in our Physic Garden.

Flax is the plant from which can be extracted fibres to process into linen, using methods known for generations in Scotland, and throughout the world. But what relevance today for this ancient fibre crop?

Coming to The Tower from  Tuesday 6th – Sunday 11th September, the Flax Futures exhibition, from Journeys in Design, explores the exceptional potential of flax fibre across well-being, community, future heritage, biodiversity, textile production and material innovation.

Curator John Ennis hopes to encourage attendees to move beyond ideas of sustainability towards regenerative design, walking more lightly on the earth, engaging in issues of local resilience and climate change. John will be on hand to offer a series of Flax Chats with special guests throughout the programme: full details on the Journeys in Design Eventbrite channel.
