How to Find Us

On Foot

Dr Neil’s Garden is located within Duddingston Village, between Duddingston Kirk and the Loch.

To access the Garden on foot, enter from the car park  for Duddingston Kirk on Duddingston Road West, opposite Holy Rood High School. Go to the top right of the car park and follow the paved path (about 140 metres) to the gate into Dr Neil’s Garden, located at the far South-West corner of the Manse Garden.

Holyrood Park is a favourite spot for walkers, and Dr Neil’s Garden makes an ideal stop-over on a hike around the park, taking in spectacular views of the City. These websites should help you to choose one of the many routes.

Disabled Access
The garden is steeply sloping in places, and some paths are narrow. A purpose-built path was created in early 2009, with funding from the WREN scheme, to enable visitors with reduced mobility to view as high a percentage of the garden as possible (WREN is a non-profit making environmental body that distributes Landfill Tax Credits under the 1997 Landfill Tax Act). Regrettably one short section (at the farthest point, overlooking Duddingston Loch) has too steep a gradient for a sloping path, but wide steps have been built. The path gives access to the lower floor (only) of Thomson’s Tower. The upper floor of the Tower is only accessible by a short flight of steps.

By Car

Dr Neil’s Garden is easily accessible by car, both from the centre of Edinburgh (3 miles) and from all major routes leading to the city.

Visitor parking – Please use the car park located beside Duddingston Kirk Hall which is accessed from Duddingston Road West. A paved path leads (about 140 metres) from the far right hand end of the car park, behind the Manse, to the south-west corner of the Manse garden, where you will find the entrance gate to Dr Neil’s Garden.
